Even though it is expected that the chain restaurants along Highway 00 in Lowtown will close within three years due to competiton from the popular chain restaurant QuicknYum that just opened, those locations will not stay unoccupied for long. In the three years since the opening of Dinone, a non-chain restaurant, a new restaurant has opened at the location of every restaurant along Highway 00 that closed because it could not compete with Dinone.

Which of the following, if true, most seriously weakens the argument?

* (A)

The strip of Highway 00 that passes through Lowtown currently has as many restaurants as it ever had.

Premises:
In the three years of opening of D, new restaurants were opened and closed as they could not compete with D.
It is expected that chain restaurants will close with in 3 years, due to competition from Q
Conclusion
the chain restaurant's locations will not stay unoccupied for long.

What is the logical gap here? Author is assuming that what happened with D will repeat with Q. Moreover, the flaw here is D is nonchain and Q is chain restaurant. We need to show somehow that the new restaurants do not open in those locations. Let us keep them in mind when looking at options.

(A) The strip of Highway 00 that passes through Lowtown currently has as many restaurants as it ever had.

Is it referring to the conclusion? NO. Moreover, it si just additional information. What if there are more restaurants? Will it help in not closing them or reoccupying them? NO - OUT

(B) It is projected that Lowtown will see more travelers passing through on Highway 00 in the next five years than it has in the past few decades.
Travellers are irrelvant to the passage. Passage doesnt say that restaurants closed because of "no travellers"

(C)The restaurants that have opened along Highway 00 since Dinone opened have increasingly been chain restaurants.

This option weakens the argument. Why? because, Most of the restaurants that were opened in the three years since D opened were chain restaurants. Remember that D is nonchain. So since there were no chain restaurants, many were opened to compete with nonchain restaurant D. But, Q is a chain restaurant. So, we cannot be sure that there would be chain restaurants coming up in competition with Q.

(D) Many of Dinone's regular diners are expected to do less eating there than they did before the QuicknYum opened.

Less eating is irrelevant to us. As long as they pay more :)

(E) Many restaurants along Highway 00 in Lowtown serve types of food that are not served at either QuicknYum or Dinone.

This will strengthen the argument because, it shows a reason for the new restaurants to be opened.

Ashish,

A humble request buddy, please double check that you have removed all the indicators of the OA or have used the spoiler tool to hide them. I can see the word "correct" after option C here. If you don't hide such indicators, then it kills the whole fun for others.. You may get your query answered by posting the problems this way, but this wont help others who want to try their hands on these questions. Trust me, it doesn't take more than a second to remove or hide such indicators using the spoiler tool.
