I eliminated D because I thought by putting a period(.) we have break the casual relationship that was required for the correct Sentence, but it turned out that i'm wrong. [/spoiler]

Can someone please explain this?

Tough one!

I could observe many 3/2 splits here:

"a chronology of past events"
"It is not a chrono..."

Then,

"Definitely is not" and definitely not"

3 (one kind) full stops and 2 other kind semi colon and colon

Really mind jarring!Then there is this trap of : which is usually used to mentions lists.

EXPERTS!

I wonder if the prompt could be written in this way:

" A resume is a history of past work experience, usually well written and a savvy marketing piece, everything but a chronology of past performance"

Any comments?
You can, for example never foretell what any one man will do, but you can say with precision what an average number will be up to!

I choose D.
Was confused b\w D and E.But D sounded much better than E and for that went with D.Another reason I choose D over E is because of Adverb "definitely",should be modifying the verb than anything else.
Anyways
I will rule out A & C because for me the sentence completed after the clause "but there is one thing it definitely is not".
Had there been any connecting conjunctions then I might have considered any other punctuation but for me the sentence was complete and it should have ended with full stop.
Infact the sentence would have completed on Savvy pieve of Marketing .But the author added another clause to it separedted with comma and a conjunction.

This is my reasoning and I might be wrong.
Corrections to my thought process would be much appreciated.
