Ma'am,

Could you tell me how well recognized the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School is ?

Will it be good if I do a full-time MBA from Carey because it belongs to the world famous Johns Hopkins?

Also, they are planning to get AASCB recognition by 2012.

Please let me know.

Dear sarah_n78,

The MBA program at Johns Hopkins is not all that known or recognized. Johns Hopkins as an institution has a strong reputation, but the business school, specifically is not well-known. Without AACSB accreditation, it is hard for any MBA program to achieve a level of recognition outside its immediate geographic area. Whether or not the business school will achieve the accreditation is a question only the school can answer. Earning AACSB accreditation can be difficult, but I'm sure there are people at Johns Hopkins doing what they need to do to earn the accreditation. If you desire to stay near Johns Hopkins when you finish business school, then it could be a viable option for you.

Carey business school of JHU has some kind of MidWest accredition and it seems they are working towards getting AACSB accrediton.

My question is, if I want to pursue PhD at some other university say CMU or NorthWestern or NYU after completing my MBA from Carey, can I do it ?

Will the univerities not accept the credite or my MBA degree from Carey ?

Dear Sarah,

Yes, a graduate degree from Johns Hopkins with the MidWest accreditation will be viewed as a degree by any other university. Whether or not the credits are accepted towards a PhD depends more on the school's policy regarding applying graduate credits in general than the accreditation of your graduate program.
