I honesty dint go as per the traditional method of answer solving. just tried to fit one answer option and see if it did make sense .

i found only when in the underlined part suits well . hence i eliminated A B and E

nw in C and D, C is turned upside down. hence ELIMINATE

whats left is D

:D

hope this helps :)

I was confused initially and was not able to decide b/w A,B and D. When I looked at the end of the sentence then I realized that it has to be D only.
carbon monoxide is formed when so and so, are only partially combusted.Neither FROM nor BY can fit in here.
E is passive construction that is illogical here - Eliminated

This is a modifier question .Carbon monoxide is imperceptible to the eye . So " Imperceptible to the eye or the ear" is the starting modifier that is modifying carbon monoxide. So eliminate C.

In E its dose not have a clear antecedent .

Comparing A, B and D only D makes sense , discard A and B.
