Can someone explain this please?

During a one-day sale, a store sold each sweater of a certain type for $30 more than the store's cost to purchase each sweater. How many sweater were sold during the sale?

1) During the sale, the total revenue from the sale of these sweaters was $270.

2) During the sale, the store sold each of these sweaters at a price that was 50 percent greater than the store's cost to purchase each sweater.

I thought this was really simple.

from the question I find that the profit for each sweater sold for a certain type is 30$

statement one gives me the revenue

let X = number of sweater sold from statement one I get

X*30=270, so statement one is suffcient.

Statement two gives me a clue that the store charges 50% above the purchase/cost price for the sweater, since we know that 30$ =50%

let X be the original price we get .5x=30 x= 60$, so statement 2 is not sufficent by itself.

Can someone explain how this works?

Statement 1 only gives us the revenue, not profit. Remember, Revenue - cost = profit.

Therefore, statement 1 is insufficient.

From statement 2, we can figure out the sale price but not enough to give us the number of sweater sold.

Both combined, you have the total revenue and a sale price for each sweater which will give you the number of sweater sold.

This is what I came up with.

from (1), if SP = selling price and CP = cost price
SP = 30 + CP
SP(x) = (30 + CP) x where x is the number of sweaters sold
since (1) tells us that total revenue is 270, that means SP(x) = 270
therefore
x(30 + CP) = 270
we still don't know what CP is, so (1) is insufficient

from (2),
SP = 150% * CP
we don't know what CP is, so (2) is insufficient

but with info from (1),
270 = 150% * CP
so we can find what CP is.
Knowing what CP is, we can solve for (1)

therefore we need both statements together. Hence (c)
