I haven't actually taken the GMAT, but I'm pretty sure you're in a room with other people testing, so no, you can't talk out loud. Try mouthing the sentences without actually speaking or reading them out loud in your head, if you know what I mean.

If you can, and you're taking the test in the same room as me, be sure to wear a helmet so that the little office supplies I throw at you won't hurt so bad.

In the Pearson center that I went to, they had ear plugs and one of those headsets that covers the whole ear. The only person I think will find test takers speak aloud annoying is the person monitoring the test. He/she gets to hear everything going on via microphone next to every test taker.

Good question! I'm trying to work on just mouthing the words. I like to read aloud even on the quant portions.

Interesting question! I believe all testing centers are different. Some you will have ear buds or headsets and some will not. I suggest calling the testing center now so you can prepare.
