I go with 75:

Given X = (some integer *Y) + 9 and X = 96Y + 0.12Y.

Equate both and you get 0.12Y = 9 => Y=75.

x/y gives us 9 as a remainder
also given
x/y = 96.12

This means the 9/y = 0.12

thus ,y = 75

Vishu,
Consider 5/3 = 1 + 2/3

x=5,y=3 Quotient = 1 remiander = 2

i.e. x/y = Quotient+Remainder / y (1)

x/y = 96 + .12

.12 is not the remainder but by the equztion (1) is equal to 9/y

9/y = .12
y=75


FYI:

If we have to find x then BY EQUATION (1)
x = y (Quotient+remainder/y)
x = 75(96+9/75)
= 7209

CHECK: 7209/75 = 96.12
