Can a trigger word such as ''yet '' introduce a conclusion?

Hi, if anyone can explain why the right answer is A and not B..

Hunter: Hunters alone are blamed for the decline in Greenrock National Forest's deer population over the past ten years. Yet clearly, black bears have also played an important role in this decline. In the past ten years, the forest's protected black bear population has risen sharply, and examination of black bears found dead in the forest during the deer hunting season showed that a number of them had recently fed on deer.

In the hunter's argument, the boldface portion plays which of the following roles?

A. It is the main conclusion of the argument.
B. It is an objection that has been raised against the main conclusion of the argument.
C. It is a judgment that the argument opposes.
D. It is a finding that the argument seeks to explain.
E. It provides evidence in support of the main conclusion of the argument.


The correct answer here is A .
I don't really see why the boldface portion is a conclusion as the sentence is introduced by a trigger wors which is ''yet'' and which fron far as i know is not used to introduce a conclusion

Really nice one !!

If you exclude the very first sentence then black bears have also played an important role in this decline clearly becomes the main conclusion followed by supportive statements.
Also Yet clearly, has great emphasis on clearly
In Hunter: Hunters alone are blamed for the decline in Greenrock National Forest’s deer population over the past ten years. is just an opening statement & should be treated as a premise rather than a conclusion.
if you look at the choices then only A & B are close to each other & should stand as valid options. But again if you pick A, then you don't have supportive statements for that in the given argument.

Here, the last sentence " examination of..." declares the explanation or the cause of the main argument... and the portion "yet...." declares the conclusion or result of the argument.

IMO A

I think rather than looking just at the signposts, we would rather be well served if we look at the structure of the stimulus as a whole.

Here the stimulus is trying to put forward an argument which means that there should be a conclusion for this stimulus. And what could be the conclusion of the argument,

the first is the premise or sub-conclusion which is stated by the author,

the third sentence is definitely a premise.

so only the sentence number 2 stands out as a conclusion.


The same could be done by using the POE.

both end up in option A.

Hence (B) is not correct

@imane.....yes it is possible to have a conclusion starting with a contrast signal (as i 've understood ur problem...in the situation the 1st statement hunters alone are blamed...introduces a popular opinion which the arguer seems to contradict as he presents an alternative reason for the decline...in this case black bears)...u can find many such questions when u practice some more material(esp from LSAT)

D refers to a finding and/or evidence - the third sentence in the argument would meet this description. on the other hand, the bold face portion is the conclusion the author has arrived at based on the supporting evidence (black bears found dead in the forest during the deer hunting season showed that a number of them had recently fed on deer)

Wow. A and D are really close. When you actually ask yourself is the sentence "...black bears have also played an important role in this decline." a finding? The answer is "no." It's more of a statement or conclusion. As jaygirl stated...on this test, finding = evidence or discovery.
