IMO D. It's the only one that makes either...or.. correct and the verb are not is.

"The majority of patrons" is plural, but only majority is singular.

Say

Majority has elected obama.

Majority of people are in favour of Obama.

Rule says: When majority statement represent one part (of something) it is plural otherwise singular.

By this rule A,B are out as they are using is.

either .. or.. is correct in D.

Answer is D.
