Business School selection..!!!

by mech04 » Mon Dec 10, 2012 1:57 am
Hi friends,
I am an engineer and working in the Oil & Gas Industry for more than 4 years. I just gave GMAT but did not score well (meagre 600 :( ).
I was looking for one business school i.e C.T. Bauer School of Business in University of Houston as it also have some energy focus courses and also because Houston is the hub area for energy and therefore seems relevent to me for my industry.
Does anyone have any idea about this school.
Please give me your suggestions and advices.

Thanks
Chandrika

Well chandrika.. "good" is relative. what are you aiming for? The best thing for you to do would be to speak to some graduates from your industry and see how things turned out for them. Nothing like a few first-hand accounts...

I agree with Jon that you should speak to graduates from your industry.

C.T. Bauer College of Business is accredited by AACSB International. Admission here is not very difficult. A score of around high 500s to early 600s with good work experience should suffice.

Regarding the school profile, so maintaining a healthy student to faculty ratio of 5:1, Bauer is recognized for its Accounting and Global Energy Management courses. The college boasts of a diverse culture with students coming from the different parts of the world.

Another good thing about this institute is its strategic location. The city of Houston is home to 20 Fortune 500 companies, enabling several career opportunities for the students. With your background, a course in energy management would be apt, giving you access to many oil and gas related companies located in Houston. Famous alumni from this college include the President of Shell, Mr. Marvin Odum and CFO of Walmart Mr. Charles Holly.

Hello,
Thanks a lot for your replies. I would certainly talk to some people from my industry.
I am basically aiming for an MBA which would let me be in my industry only i.e energy and would be relevent with my work experience, so that in future I hope I can easily find a job too.
Yes, I am considering this college because of its location too.

What other colleges you think I might apply?

Thanks & Regards
Chandrika
