Burglar alarm systems can be inaccurate in two ways: they can fail to detect an intruder when one is present, or they can falsely report the presence of an intruder. To detect the presence of an intruder most accurately, homeowners should purchase the system that is least likely to falsely report the presence of an intruder.

If true, which of the following would most strengthen the above recommendation?

a) The police respond to automatic alerts from burglar alarms more quickly than they do to telephone calls reporting the presence of an intruder.
b) The burglar alarm system that is least likely to sound its alarm when there is no intruder present is equal in price to all other major brands of alarm systems.

IMO-A

The Bold part is the conclusion
a) The police respond to automatic alerts from burglar alarms more quickly than they do to telephone calls reporting the presence of an intruder. When the probability of false reporting is low, so police will respond quickly
b) The burglar alarm system that is least likely to sound its alarm when there is no intruder present is equal in price to all other major brands of alarm systems. Price is not an issue here.[/b]
c) Local police forces vary in their response rates to burglar alarm systems. Out of scope
d) All burglar alarm systems have the same rate of mistaking an animal for a burglar. Does this make any difference to the conclusion?
e) All burglar alarm systems have the same rate of failing to detect an intruder when one is present. This indeed weakens

IMO E

If all systems have same rate of failing to detect an intruder when one is present.

Its obvious that recommendation should be to select with least likely to falsely report the presence of an intruder

E for me to,

Since "All burglar alarm systems have the same rate of failing to detect an intruder when one is present.", so the most accurate alarm system will be one that is least likely to falsely report the presence of an intruder

The argument compares the limitations of an alarm system, it does not compares it with crime reporting.

A is a trap....the correct answer should focus on what should be kept in mind when purchasing alarm system.

Only D and E...mention the reason.

IMO E is correct , it clearly states that we can buy any of them , no need to get choosy about one particular type as all have same failing probability

a) The police respond to automatic alerts from burglar alarms more quickly than they do to telephone calls reporting the presence of an intruder. – it doesn’t matter how quickly the police respond to automatic alerts from burglar alarms compared to telephone calls

b) The burglar alarm system that is least likely to sound its alarm when there is no intruder present is equal in price to all other major brands of alarm systems. – the price of the brands of alarm system is not applicable to the argument

c) Local police forces vary in their response rates to burglar alarm systems. - response rates of local police to burglar alarm systems are out of scope in the argument

d) All burglar alarm systems have the same rate of mistaking an animal for a burglar. - the same rate of mistaking an animal for a burglar is out of scope in the argument

e) All burglar alarm systems have the same rate of failing to detect an intruder when one is present. – CORRECT as if the rate of failing to detect an intruder is the same for all alarm system, the rate of falsely reporting the presence of an intruder remains the sole criteria for the choice of alarm system

Right answer choice: All guys trying to woo Jen are equally bad looking.

So,Kev will have an upper hand if he has money.
