Option A. 'Just because'? there are proper 'starters' than this. And it is not a proper idiom.This option is incorrect.

Option B. This option fully explains how 'King Alfred occupied and fortified London', in a simple and clear term. This makes the option perfect choice and thus it is the correct option.

Option C. Two irregularities were spotted in this option, first is the absence of 'had' to introduce the act.Also the use of 'it' sounds awkward and does not fits where it occupies in the middle of the sentence.

Option D. This option suffers the same fate as the option B, because 'it' does not fits where it occupies.

Option E. This option suffers the same fate as option A because of the use of 'Just because' it sounds so awkward to begin a statement in such a manner. This option is also guilty of the use of 'it' which was a major problem in option C.
