I'm looking to get an MBA with a focus in healthcare, and recently discovered BU's Health Sector Management MBA, which seems like a great program, but I haven't seen it discussed much on any forums. Does anyone know anything about it, or its reputation?
By way of background, I have a profile that might give me a shot at a top school (3.6 undergrad GPA from a top liberal arts school, 7 years work experience, including a few years at a top hospital (I'm not a clinician, but was involved in research) and a few years at a top consultancy, with management and leadership roles, etc.), but I'm also looking to have a somewhat balanced life during and after b-school (no 80 hour a week consulting gigs for me) as I have family responsibilities and other things to consider. I'd prefer to go someplace where I won't be working 20 hours a day just to keep my head above water. I've done that, and don't want to do it again. My goal in pursuing an MBA is to gain expertise in how healthcare works from a business perspective, since I'm coming from the clinical and research side, and to bring that knowledge back to my work in healthcare service delivery. I realize any MBA will take a significant amount of effort, but from talking with students at a range of schools, it definitely seems like some programs are more intense than others.
Anyone want to comment on the BU program, or recommend other places I should look? Or just tell me I'm crazy for thinking I can do an MBA and still have a life? Thanks!
