Books? TOTALLY confused! HELPPP!!!

I think I am saying what many of us newbies are thinking:

Which books should we be getting?

I did read the book reviews by Dana J, but I am hoping to get a few inputs from all you achievers whom I am (if not all the other members) looking up to for some guidance.

I am trying to get a short list of books for Q, V and AWA. I just got a very good advice from a member here -- don't forget the grammar section.

So that being said, can you guys please tell me what *you* think I should get? I am trying to get a general trend (if 5 of 7 people say Manhattan for SC, for example, then I know where I should be looking at).

Another thing, does the edition matter that much? I mean say if I have Manhattan 2007, do I need to throw it and get a Manhattan 2010? Sure it updates every year, but is it worth getting the newer one or I should stick to what I have? What would *you* do? (Sorry, but it's better this way, instead of "if you have money, buy it, if not then don't!") LOL

Thanks everyone...

Hey,

I know, picking books is so overwhelming! It took me a while to figure out what to get. I outlined my study plan in my blog (see link below), if you want to check that out. The only change is that instead of Manhattan GMAT I'll be using VeritasPrep, since I was lucky enough to get a full set of their books free (I'll write more about that in my blog at some point). Right now I'm still on the Kaplan book - I'm using it as a general review before I delve deeper into the individual topics.

As far as getting updated versions of the same book...from what I've read it's not worth it. I don't think they change very much, but if someone knows more about this feel free to chime in.

Good luck!

SC-Manhattan SC 2010.It is better if u buy the new edition as new chapters are added.

CR-PowerScore Bible.This is the best.

Quant-OG 12.

If you are looking for more problems,you can buy Quant Math review.

The list of books I have (and I am sure half of these might be worthless):

* ETS Module - Quant, How to crack Verbal
* Manhattan CR 2005
* Manhattan Math 2005
* Manhattan Word Translation 2005
* Manhattan SC 2003
* Manhattan SC 2005
* McGraw Hill's Conquering Verbal 2008
* McGraw Hill's Conquering Math 2008
* McGraw Hill's GMAT 2009
* McGraw Hill's GMAT 2010
* OG 10
* OG 11
* OG 11 Verbal Review
* OG 12
* Kaplan GMAT 800 - 2008
* GMAT CR Bible
* Arco Master the GMAT 2007
* Nova GMAT Prep Course
* Peterson's Ultimate GMAT tooklit 2007
* Manhattan Review - Turbocharge GMAT SC
* Princeton GMAT Review 2003
* Princeton Verbal Workout

Yeah, over the last few months, I have been asking anyone with a mother - who took the GMAT to save me the goodies.

Not sure which one out of these are good, which one are to be dumped...

Besides these (in case MOST of these are junk) any suggestions??

Thanks,

uhsa

Anyone here has a short list of "must-have" books that helped them beat the GMAT?

The general trend I am getting is
* Princeton Review == to get started
* Kaplan Math
* Veritas Prep == Probability, etc
* MGMAT = Verbal
* PowerScore == SC

I have been trying to start my "study" since last week but every night when I finally sit down, I am CONFUSED as hell! Which book to pick up?

I am not sure what my weak point is, and I am afraid to give the 1st CAT practice. I want to at least get an overview of Math/Verbal -- no practice, just get basic formulas, etc back in the head and then give.

I took the Kaplan CAT1 Math == 15 or 16 questions in the software. I got 12 right, but the time was short (which I am not worried at this stage). The answers I had to guess, I could do 2 of them right so that was a big moral booster...

But yeah, I have no clue how to START, with which books. Please help!
