Delta Products Inc. has recently switched at least partly from older technologies using fossil fuels to new technologies powered by electricity.The question has been raised whether it can be concluded that for a given level of output Delta's operation now causes less fossil fuel to be consumed than it did formerly. The answer, clearly, is yes, since the amount of fossil fuel used to generate the electricity needed to power the new technologies is less than the amount needed to power the older technologies, provided level of output is held constant

In the argument given, the two boldfaced portions play which of the following roles?

(A) The first identifies the content of the conclusion of the argument; the second provides support for that conclusion.
(B) The first provides support for the conclusion of the argument; the second identifies the content of that conclusion.
(C) The first states the conclusion of the argument; the second calls that conclusion into question.

I chose B and was confused between E and B. Then the word "IDENTIFIES" of B made me to pick B.

When we break each and every sentence into PREMISE FOR CONCLUSION, PREMISE AGAINST CONCLUSION, and CONCLUSION, the first one is PREMISE FOR - so "provides support" fits fine of B and second one actually has the wordings of the conclusion - so thought as B says it is identifying the content.

IMO the conclusion is "The answer is Yes". So E also looks promising, however B looks more precise.

Looking forward for some experts to clarify the doubts between B and E.

Extemely nice question

A/C are wrong: they say that first bold is the conclusion
B is wrong: it says that second bold is part of conclusion

In reality the word 'yes' in the stem is the conclusion. A/B/C are a straight NO.

Now to the tough part of D/E
Yes E it is but I fell for the second bold being called a question. This is true in nature a question but this is where the trap lies.

Agree with OA
First take: 640 (50M, 27V) - RC needs 300% improvement

I also chose B and was surprised to see E as the answer. I googled this question just to find that the original poster did not post the question correctly, leading to all the confusion.
