52. According to the Better Business Bureau, if you fail to advertise the highest price in a range of prices for a service or product as prominently as that of the lowest, it violates the New York Consumer Protection Law.

(A) if you fail to advertise the highest price in a range of prices for a service or product as prominently as that of the lowest, it
(B) if one fails to advertise the highest price in a range of prices for a service or product as prominently as the lowest price, it
(C) failure to advertise the highest price in a range of prices for a service or product as prominently as the lowest
(D) failure to advertise as prominently the highest price in a range of prices for a service or product as the lowest
(E) failing to advertise as prominently the highest price in a range of prices for a service or products as that of the lowest

IMO B

C,D and E lacks llelism

A use of that is redundant

Here (A) & (B) can be eliminated because of the usage of 'it'

In (D) & (E) 'as prominently ___________ as' is incorrect

My take is (C) ... 'as prominently as' is correct

I honestly have no idea why C would be correct... substituting that back into the sentence... 'It' then throws me off. Can someone please explain?

money9111, i believe that "it" should also be a part of the underlined portion in the question. Otherwise, none of the answer choices would be correct. If we consider "it" to be a part of the underlined statement, then answer choice (C) is perfect, and I'm sure you will see that too.

btw, please ask Erin to change your nick. Sounds weird to keep calling you money9111 :D

IMO C

A & B - it doesn't have an clear antecedent.
C- Correctly uses the idiom 'advertise X of ABC as prominently as Y'
D - as prominently X as the Y
E- Failing is wrong here

I chose C initially. Here's why:

[spoiler]A - What does "it" refer to? Nothing.

B - Same as A... "it" doesn't refer to anything

D - Failure to advertise as prominently? This is unidiomatic

E - In addition to being unidiomatic, this is wordy.[/spoiler]

I am not convinced with "C". Need someone to elaborate and help me understand...

I was vacillating between A and B but went for A finally. I rejected C, D, E by just looking at first word "failure" in each of these options. If it has to be "failure" then it can not start with "it" after comma...

I see someone has put comment that its a kind of typo/error and "it" should be part of underlined statement...its so confusing...

I WOULD SUGGEST EVERYONE TO BE EXTRA CAREFUL WHILE POSTING QUESTION...obviously because so many people spend time and serious thoughts on questions and such error makes the effort futile...
