I used Personal MBA Coach for their 5-school package, and I ended up signing up for my sixth school since they broke down the complicated application process into simpler step-by-step process.

Before I started my application process, I did a fair bit of research on consultants, and finally decided to go with Personal MBA Coach. From Day 1, Scott will give you the honest, non-sugarcoated advice that everybody needs. As a business school applicant, you need to understand what your strengths are as well as your weaknesses. Most consultants are good with telling you your strengths, but they are not as good with telling you your weaknesses as they do not want to upset you. Scott was different, and hence I decided to go with Scott and his team.

Throughout the application process, I knew that I could rely on Personal MBA Coach as Scott was always there and would answer my emails/questions even during weekends or Christmas! From minor points in my overall story to locations I should select for my interviews, Scott would answer all my questions (no matter how minor and tedious they might be).

When Farrell and I first started working together, I had a plan, but I was lost. I was following the standard career path for my industry; start in engineering, get an MBA, move into business development. There was nothing in my plan that aligned with who I am or what I believe in. Farrell saw through this, and so would an admissions committee.

We started with introspection and goal setting. We dove deep into my entire life story, not just my professional journey! I told her of the good times that I love to share and the hard times that I’d rather forget. Farrell got to know me better than I know myself. She posed challenging questions that pushed me to my emotional limits but helped me uncover who I am and what I bring as a unique individual.

After learning about who I am, the school choices fell into place. Farrell identified MBA programs that aligned with my goals and pushed me to research each one, connecting me with her past clients who were current students or alums and recommending podcasts and business school guides. Throughout the interview process, Farrell was dedicated to help me adapt my story to each individual interview. We outlined anecdotes and fit them into a framework that I will use in interviews for the rest of my life. I recorded myself on video and she provided honest feedback that helped me refine my stories into short, effective responses that captured the key messages that I want to convey. Most importantly, Farrell was my biggest fan and I walked into every interview feeling like I deserved a place on that school’s MBA program.

In the end, I chose to accept an offer from Harvard Business School with offers from Duke, Kellogg, MIT and Berkeley and waitlists from Yale and Stanford. $25K offer from MIT and $60K from Duke. Great results for someone without any diversity points to speak of and a 720 GMAT.

However, I gained so much more from this process than these results. I learned about who I am, what I bring and what will bring me true fulfilment in life. Please publish the results Machichi... I've been trying to figure this out but so many random discussions on this... Most pointing to Sandy vs Stacy, or Veritas vs ClearAdmit.

The only problem for me is that I don't have the USD3000+ that most of these guys ask for a single school. What's the strategy to mazimise efficiency while minimizing outlays?

Do admissions consultants even make sense? Do they really increase one's chances of getting in - if so, what a shame. (I guess I'll cry about unethical ways of using someone else to make my case stronger, but eventually end up using one anyway!)

I think you have a false image of what a consultant is, please correct me if I am mistaken. But an MBA consultant is one who has the knowledge of business schools and so they are able to guide you and get the best out of you to lead to your dream school just like a teacher, who has the knowledge, guides you to a good future.

And yes, about deciding a consultant, do not go with a brand. Try to talk to different consultants and see, for yourself, which ones click with you and will give your proper time and quality for helping you understand yourself and craft good essays.

I highly recommend Scott from PERSONAL MBA COACH as an excellent MBA applications consultant.
Here is why:

-My primary goal was to get into Sloan and I think I was not a perfect candidate (not a super high GMAT or undergrad GPA, etc.). He really helped to bring my best story to come out in my application.

-He kept me organized in my thought process and with the deadlines throughout the application cycle.

-He gave me an honest assessment of my strengths and weaknesses as an applicant. He knows how to leverage your strengths and mitigate your weaknesses. He is experienced and practical. He listens and crafts a practical strategy that is tailored to your circumstances.

-I am a person who asks a lot of questions (sometimes a little too much) and he is very patient. He is friendly and professional at the same time.

I reached out to Personal MBA Coach in mid-November after working with another consultant for 3+ months without making much progress on my applications. I wound up starting from scratch, but in spite of the relatively late start, I was able to submit 6 complete applications (MIT, NYU, Wharton, Stanford, HBS, Columbia) for round 2. Scott and his team were incredible, and as soon as I was on board with Scott the progress was immediate and tangible.
