I don't find any issue with A and that's my answer..

you can strike out B and D coz they use "weights" where weigh should be used..

also if we see a 3:2 split here.. its between referring to the bats simply against using "those of the"..

I find those of the as unnecessary..

I would go with A too.
I find 2 options correct A and D.D seems lengthy.

D can't be cuz the idiom is from X to Y....
i'll go w/ A even though i don't like the 'weiging about a penny' part....
