Baseball, the only major professional sport during the Great Depression, was as present as the weather, and as much discussed

A)

B) present like the weather was and it was also discussed as much

C) as present and was discusses as the weather was

D) so present as to be discussed like the weather

E) present and discussed as often as the weather was

B is wrong...present like the weather was
C&E...not quite attractive to be considered...

A is wrong because "as much discussed" compare to what
B is wrong because "like" can not stand before a clause
C "present" and"discussed" can not be in comparative form
D chang meaning illogicall

E is right. I think

Thought it should have been D...but after a closer look, im confused 'to be discussed like weather".....ummm like cannot be used here, got to be 'as'.....wat say people??

IMO A.

but please post explainations, im confused in the use of As/Like

OA is A.

I went for E

We are comparing the presence of weather and discussion of weather with that of Baseball's. Definitely cant do that with like.

D changes the meaning with So as to be.

To me E was succinct and clear. How ever OA thinks otherwise.

Why is E wrong? Is it only comparing the discussion part and comparing the presence part?

Other reason why I left out A was because the second as is not matched with another as.

It is not clear in E that baseball's 'presence' is being compared with weather's 'presence':

"Baseball, the only major professional sport during the Great Depression, was present and discussed as often as the weather was."

Part of the sentence's intent is to convey the idea that 'Baseball was as present as the weather". One might understand E to say: "Baseball was present. And it was discussed as often as the weather was." So E doesn't make the intended comparison clearly, and is not the best answer.
