Actually, most programs are trending older. There has been a general shift from not only the schools' perspectives, but also the applicants, to apply a little later in their careers. The applicants that have been generally immune to this have been those in "career accelerating" jobs such as pedigree banking or strategy consulting or private equity.

So for you, not only does it come down to the quality of your work experience, but also the match of the programs you're targeting to what you want to do. Essentially, if you're looking for general management with an average background, there are more qualified applicants. If, however, you're looking to a particular school for something rather specific and it makes sense at this point in your career, that changes your chances.

To your last point, 3 years of WE is generally not a fit for most programs. It's only a fit for the career accelerating industries I mentioned. Outside of that, 3 is considered on the lower end.
