B-Schools by focus?

Figure out where you wish to apply

Greetings!

I'm just starting out my journey towards applying to B-School (I hope to start a program in year 2014) and since I started looking into various schools, I've noticed a re-occurring statement: How school X is a finance school, where school Y is a supply chain school, and so on.

Are certain schools really know for having a focus or specialty in their MBA programs?

If so, does a list/discussion exist that points out each school's focus or specialty?

Thank you in advance!

Top schools are good for a lot of disciplines but there are some schools which are known for specific functions owing to their proximity to certain type of industry. For example Rice is known for MBA in Energy sector where as NYU is a good for Finance MBAs. You can find such listings on FT Rankings or US News Rankings.

Yep.
there's no "master list" per se, but if you look in your target industry and do a google search you'll find plenty of thoughts on where to apply.

B-Schools offer a wide range of management specialties. Based on their core areas, these schools are ranked every year. Here is a list of key MBA specialties (alphabetically) top B-schools offer:

"¢ Accounting
"¢ Entrepreneurship
"¢ Finance
"¢ Information Systems
"¢ International
"¢ Management
"¢ Marketing
"¢ Nonprofit
"¢ Production / Operations
"¢ Supply Chain / Logistics

Now, depending upon your career plans, you can check the ranking of B-Schools for a particular specialty. U.S. News ranking is a good source for the same. Alternatively, you can take the top B-School approach. Here, you can check the strongest areas of your chosen B-School.

Bloomberg Businessweek rankings emphasize on the top industry for a particular school. US News Rankings are again very helpful as apart from the school ranking, it also tells you about its market standing according to each specialty.

Please note that the evaluation varies every year and you should go through the latest ranks just before applying.

Thank you for all for taking the time to reply.

I found the US News pages not too long ago and forgot to report back; it's a page to check out and help focus target schools.

Thanks again!
