Hello

Some B schools ask whether a recommender has any reservations about his/her candidate. The safest answer to this question is - 'No reservation at all'. Logically, why would a recommender recommend someone if he/she has any reservations about the candidate.. isn't it ?

Could you please explain the purpose of this question then ? Does this question seek any other information ?

Well, hopefully this won;t come up, because you will be wise enough to choose a recommender who you know will not answer with any reservations. :)

The question is there to tempt your recommender, and see what negative things they might have to say. And you should choose a recommender who will have none.

Indeed !! I can imagine this question being left blank 99.9% of the times then.

The question anyway drove me curious.

Would it hurt if a recommender isn't negative but wishes to admit his concerns for e.g. whether the candidates will be able to find a suitable job in these tough economic times.

Well, I'd say that's also not such a good idea. After all, the schools want those guys and gals who EVEN in such adverse times can easily land that job. So, better to aim for no reservations, when possible, yeah?
