Last year, the five employees of Company X took an average of 16 vacation days each. What was the average number of vacation days taken by the same employees this year?

(1) Three employees had a 50% increase in their number of vacation days, and two employees had a 50% decrease.

(2) Three employees had 10 more vacation days each, and two employees had 5 fewer vacation days each.

Answer ought to be B. From the question, last year the five people averaged 16 days vacation --> i.e. they took 80 vacation days in total. Three people take 10 more vacation days this year, while two people take 5 fewer days --> 80 + 3*10 - 2*5 = 100 vacation days taken in total this year. Average is thus 20 vacation days.

The other statement is not sufficient without some information about the distribution of the vacation days.
