At major hollywood studios a much greater proportion of the population is employed than is employed by independent movie production companies

B ) At Major Hollywood studios they employ a much a much greater proportion of the population than independent movie production companies do .
C)A Major greater proportion of the major holly-wood studios' population is employed than independent movie production companies employ
D)Major Hollywood studios employ a much greater proportion of the population than the employment of Independent Movie production companies
E)Major Hollywood studios employ a much greater proportion of the population than independent movie production companies do

OA E
I agree with the OA
What exactly is wrong with D as far as the grammatical structure / Meaning issues are concerned. If the comparison is wrong then why is it wrong .

In D, the population is compared to the employment.

D is wrong because the first part of the sentence conveys that studios employ but the second part of the sentence talks about employment of, the same cause unparallelism between the meanings in two part of the sentence and therefore, makes it wrong.........
