At a certain company, some of the employees have advanced degrees, some have one year or more of work experience, and some have both. If 20 percent of all employees have one year or more of experience and no advanced degree, what percentage of employees have advanced degrees and less than one year of experience?

(1) 35 percent of the employees do not have advanced degrees and 55 percent have less than one year of work experience.
(2) 15 percent of the employees do not have advanced degrees and one year or more of work experience, but 45 percent have one year or more of experience.

The OA is D.

Please, can anyone explain this DS question? I need help to understand it. Thanks.

Let A be % of people with advanced degrees and less than one year of experience. We need to find this volume.
Let W be % of people with no advanced degrees and with one year of or more of work experience.
Let B be % of people with advanced degrees and with one year or more of work experience.
Let N be % of people with no advanced degree and less than one year of experience.
Given that W = 20 and A + W +B + N = 100

Statement 1 = 35% of employees do not have advanced degrees and 55% have less than one year of work experience.
W +N = 35
A + N = 55
Since W = 2
20 + N = 35; N = 35 - 20 = 15
A + N = 55
A + 15 = 55
A = 55 - 15 = 40
Statement 1 is SUFFICIENT.

Statement 2 = 15% of employees do not have advance degrees and one year of more of work experience but 45% have one year or more of work experience.
N = 15
W + B = 45
Remember that A + W + B + N= 100
From this we can say that,
A = 100 - 15 - 45
A = 40
Hence, statement 2 is also sufficient.
However, Option D is the correct answer.
