A, B and D are incorrect becasue meaning is illogical. These options are saying explosion is a type but in reality explosion is of a type not known before.

C - redundant. I can't see any other problem with this option

E - Correct idiom is Believe to be therefore correct

I think correct way to crack this question is

1.) Question is talking about type so 'of' :-When we mean to specify one thing out of n similar thing we use 'of" construction

e.g of all available forums Btg is the best

2.) believed to be is idiom

Hi All,

It looks like this is a much older post, but since some of you are clearly responding to it now, you might find this information useful.

I used 2 rules to answer this question:

1) Style - Don't use redundant language - it's unnecessary and considered incorrect style. Here, the word "one" clearly references "a distant supernova explosion", so we don't need the pronoun "that." Eliminate A and B.

2) Idiom - The word "believe" has to be followed, at some point, by the words "to be." Eliminate C and D.

Final Answer: E
