Option A - Incorrect
This statement doesn't fit in because of the use of the pronoun 'this'. This explains that the act of the stinger staying where it is, is the cause of the fatal injury the bees sustain.

Option B - Incorrect
This contains no subject because it is introduced with the preposition 'as' and 'with' which makes the first part of the sentence a dependent clause.

Option C - Incorrect
This option states that the stinger itself rather than the position it finds itself causes the bee to sustain a fatal injury.

Option D - Incorrect
This claim changes the intended meaning of the sentence stating that the stinger results in the act of stinging whereas the act of the stinger heavily barbed... results in the bee poor circumstances.

Option E - Correct
This answer choice clearly states that the stinger (performer of the actin) stay (action) with the result that the act of stinging (object) causes fatal injury to the bee.
