A. incorrect as "and" must join two independant sentences. A gives rise to a run on sentence with no verb

B. better as it does away with "and" and the need for two independant sentences. presumably the remains of the king and the queen were already coffined and inscriptioned before they were found. the part after comma describes the insciption

And I guess, the sentence with 'and' would have been something like

'and Arthur's coffin was marked with the inscription'

How in "B"...it is an independent sentence ? there is no definite verb like "was", were etc...without which IMO sentence cannot be independent.

B is correct because the answer is a clause which describes the overall sentence.

is a complete clause...

this is similar to "Book marked with XYZ price..."...

Do not we need something like "was" to make this a complete sentence...

not sure how this connects the two parts without a conjunctions

"the inscription" has no precedent
D) the inscription that was marked on the coffin of Arthur
again, no conjunction here.
E) the coffin of Arthur had the inscription marked
missing conjunction. is "inscription marked" etc. a correct usage?

Isnt it the other way round, without an 'and' it will be a run on sentence. The only reason why A seem to be a bad choice is because it says 'and the Arthur' had it been and Arthur's coffin then that would have been the ideal choice. I am still not clear on why B is an obvious choice as compared to A.

Good Que, really testing the grammer basics.

A is incorrect because "Arthur's coffin marked with the inscription" is NOT a sentence; to be a sentence, it would have to read: "and Arthur's coffin was marked with the inscription"

B is best among all and logically connects well, but being a native speaker not able to explain apart from saying it sounds perfect.

Can any one explains rule as in how B is connected with whole sentence.
