Perhaps the question designer intended for this to be a geometric series question, but as it's worded, it certainly is not. There is nothing in the wording of the question to suggest any relationship with geometric series (there is nothing to suggest we should be multiplying the 0.4 values); the only reasonable interpretation is the one used by Stuart in his solution above. I hope you have read my post above.
Given Aman's perseverance about the answer choices,I think he wanted to know the concepts regarding G.P. and picked out a question which was phrased in the wrong manner.
Maybe,you can rephrase the question or post another of an infinite G.P. question that can help to clarify Aman's doubts..
