The most common things that people can improve on are:

a) getting as much info as possible out of the question itself;

b) being especially careful to take the statements independently

For the first, don't even look at the statements until you've seen if you can simplify the question and you've thought through what kind of information would give you an answer. At first, it'll be slow going, but you'll speed up quickly.

For the second, it's just a matter of discipline. Sounds easy, but everybody invariably makes that mistake now and then.
