I am an 19-year old Vietnamese guy now residing in Boston. (It is my 2-nd month in U.S). I took my first GMAT today and was quite upset to realize that my score was 570. I've got 44 on my math section and 25 on my verbal. Actually, my math score was lower than I expected ( I took 4 pre-tests, and my average math section score was 48). On the real exam I found math questions much harder than the questions I have ever met, that is why had to guess some of them. Speaking about my poor Verbal score, I did not expect it to be higher.
I started preparing for GMAT 1 month ago and mainly used KAPLAN's Verbal book and Princeton Review's Math Book. My target GMAT score varies from 680-700. I am planning to retake GMAT at the end of December or in January. I am looking forward to any clues of how can I improve my verbal score. Especially the CR. I dont know why but it eats all my precious time, and in the end I am always left with no time and wrong answers on these CR questions.
Speaking more 'bout myself. I've got a 4-years degree (bachelor of Arts) in International Commerce from an elite Russian university. I have 3 years of working experience (first 1,5 - I was working in Finance Planning Dept of an FMCG company in Russia, and another 1,5 I was working as an financial analyst in russian IB). But due to the fact that I was working while studying (though I commited myself and devoted 7-8 hours working after classes till late night and was working during weekends), I do not know whether Business Schools will accept it as a kind of working experience or not. I am planning to apply this year to MSF programs (Boston College and Vanderbilt). Do you think I have any chances to get in?
And the last question is about master in finance program. Are there any average GMAT scores for that kind of program? Are they looking at math section more than the verbal part (as it is specialized Master in Finance)?
Sorry for my poor English, if you have met any mistakes while reading this post. I am still learning. Looking forward to any ideas/solutions to problems stated above from experienced as well as inexperienced people.
