I am not sure if I am correct. But this is how I looked at it. Get rid of the prep phrase, so the sentence becomes

Herself the mother, Mrs D..... or
Herself being the mother, Mrs D....

The first one sounds better and less wordy. Also I think it should be a in place of the. But that is a completely different topic.

"Being" is almost never correct on the GMAT. There are rare exceptions, but I think I've only seen one sentence correction question that had "being" in the answer choice. Furthermore, "being" doesn't add anything to the SC question. B,D, and E are gone. C is just too wordy. That leaves 'A', and 'Mrs Newland' appears to be appropriately placed immediately after the modifying phrase.

Answer: A

Because in either game - life or football - the margin for error is so small. I mean, one half a step too late or too early and you don't quite make it. One half second too slow, too fast and you don't quite catch it. I'll tell you this, in any fight it's the guy whose willing to die whose gonna win that inch. That's football guys, that's all it is. Now, what are you gonna do?
