An interesting Tofu :-)

by papgust » Tue Dec 29, 2009 8:36 am
In addition to having more nutritive value than coconut does, the protein in tofu is higher quality than that in coconut, with as much fibre and taste.

A. the protein in tofu is higher quality than that in
B. tofu has protein of higher quality than that in
C. the protein in tofu is higher in quality than it is in
D. tofu protein is higher in quality than it is in
E. tofu has a protein higher in quality than

OA soon.

its tofu that contains protein so tofu should be in beginning after the comma, so A C out. Out of B D E E is incorrect as in E protein is getting compared with tofu for quality while the comparison should be in the protein of the two items. D is again having similar issues with ambigious referent for it, B wins

IMO : B

IMO E.

A - wrong comparison
B - THAT IN is not needed here.
C - Wrong comparison
D - tofu protein - wrong comparison
E - Comparing Tofu and Coconut correctly.

What is OA and what is the source of the question?

OA is C. I'm still puzzled with the OA. My guess was B.

I'm seriously doubting the OA. Wrong comparison. What is the source of the question?

"In addition to having more nutritive value than coconut does" who has more nutritive value??
Obviously its can't be protein, it should be tofu having more nutritive value. So only B & E remains. (same error in D)

While next sentence compares the quality of protein, so:

B. tofu has protein of higher quality than that in --->correct comparision; that refers to protein.
E. tofu has a protein higher in quality than ------>Incorrect comparison: tofu's protein is compared with coconut.

okies. Here's my explanation.

Not A: coz protein in tofu is higher quality, higher quality has to be a noun which is not the case.
Not B: coz than that in is not idiomatic
Not D: coz tofu protein inicates tofu in itself is a type of protein which is clearly not the case.
Not E: coz comparisions are wrong. protein is being compared with coconut.

Thus C.

In option E, Tofu is compared with Coconut.

C. the protein in tofu is higher in quality than it is in

C cannot be the correct answer. C has a modifier problem. protein is present in both tofu and coconut but C makes it sound like protein and coconut are being compared.

What's the source of this question?
