An estate of $216,000 is divided equally among p people who must each pay the lawyer d percent of their share. What is the value of d?

(1) p = 4
(2) The lawyer will receive $270 from each of the p people.

The OA is C.

I'm confused by this PS question. Experts, any suggestion? I'm not sure how I should combine (1) and (2) to get the solution. Thanks in advance.

Hi All,

We're told that an estate worth $216,000 is divided equally among P people and that each must pay the lawyer D percent of their share. We're asked for the value of D. This question can be solved with a bit of Arithmetic and TESTing VALUES.

1) P = 4

Fact 1 tells us nothing about the percent that is paid or the total dollar figure that is paid.
Fact 1 is INSUFFICIENT

2) The lawyer will receive $270 from each of the P people.

IF....
P=1, then D = 270/216,000
P=2, then D = 540/216,000
P=3, then D = 840/216,000
Etc.
As P increases, the value of D increase, but we still don't know the exact value of D.
Fact 2 is INSUFFICIENT

Combined, we know...
P=4
When P=4, then D = 1080/216,000, so we CAN calculate the value of D.
Combined SUFFICIENT.

Final Answer: C
