Although the total ticket revenues from independent movie theaters amounts to a sum more than $300 million last year, many analysts predict that such theaters will struggle this year and in the future.

A. amounts to a sum more
B. amounts to more
C. amounted to more
D. amounted to higher
E. amounted to a higher sum

revenues = plural = amount... I doubt if revenues is correct?
amount = sum = same word
revenues ( count/uncount) (higher/more)

IMO : amounted to more than 300M$
First take: 640 (50M, 27V) - RC needs 300% improvement
Second take: coming soon..

Could you please tell me why "higher" is incorrect in this case ?

Ex - The profit was higher than $100 million OR The profit was more than $100 million.

also higher than is a comparitive form and nothing is been compared here. it only talks abt one year data. so its usage its wrong.
correct me if this is not valid.
