Say Amanda and Todd purchase p packages of candy, q bags of popcorn, and r pretzels and the costs of a package of candy is $x, a bag of popcorn is $y, that of a pretzel is $x.

Thus, we have to find out the value of xp - (yp + zr).

We are also given that x = y/2; thus, xp - (yp + zr) = yp/2 - (yp + zr).

Let's take each statement one by one.

1) The cost of a bag of popcorn is equal to the cost of a pretzel.

y = z. Can't get the value of yp/2 - (yp + zr). Insufficient.

2) Amanda and Todd purchased 24 packages of candy, 6 pretzels, and 6 bags of popcorn.

p = 24; q = 6 and r = 6. Can't get the value of yp/2 - (yp + zr). Insufficient.

(1) and (2) together

yp/2 - (yp + zr) = y*24/2 - (y*6 + y*6) = 12y - (6y + 6y) = 0. The answer is 0. Sufficient.

The correct answer: C
