Am I smart enough for B-School

by jmontalvo1973 » Wed Sep 15, 2010 7:59 am
Got my GED at 18, then went on to a for profit school (DeVry University) graduated with a B.S. in network and Communication Mangt. Have not found a job in the field. Planning on taking the GMAT. I'm afraid that my past education did not give me a strong enough background to tackle such a task. Has anyone been through this and can anyone share their experience. Can anyone help me with a strategy for preparing for the GMAT. Is B-School for me?

jmontalvo1973,

It comes down to how bad you want it. Have you asked yourself why you want an MBA? Once you have decided you want it bad enough and answered (honestly!) why you want the degree, then it comes down to how hard are you are willing to work. Smart is not part of the equation. True, some folks are smarter than others, but that does not mean they can accomplish more than you. Some of us just have to work harder.

Take a look at some of the offered (and required) classes at the schools you want to go to. This will give you an idea of what you might be getting yourself into. Still interested? Time to put in the work.

Hope this helps and good luck!

True, I have thought about it hard. I'm starving at my current job and need to make a move. I have decided to hit it hard even if it takes me a year or two to study for the GMAT. I guess I'm so bummed out because of being out of school for so long, 13 years since I have stepped into a class room. Thanks for taking the time...
