It should be noted that although + VERBing can be correct.
The OA to SC158 in the OG10:
Although accounting for only 5 percent of the world's population, United States citizens consume 28 percent of its nonrenewable resources.
The portion in green is a VERBLESS clause.

What is the source of this question? I agree with you - there is nothing wrong with answer choice B.

Here's a breakdown of the answers:

(A) the production sector has currently added many new manufacturing units around the world and its profit figures have increased unexpectedly, its
Perfectly fine.

(B) the production sector has currently added many manufacturing units around the world and its profit figures increased unexpectedly, its
Also perfectly fine.
- we didn't need "new," since "added" already implies that
- the present perfect "have increased" is preferred, but there's nothing wrong with the simple past tense "increased." Verbs do NOT need to be in the same tense to be parallel.

(C) many new manufacturing units have been opened around the world and its profit figures increased unexpectedly, the production sector’s
- begins with the passive voice. Not inherently wrong, but unlikely to show up in a right answer if other answer choices are in the active voice.
- the "its" in a parallel structure should refer to an antecedent already mentioned, or we should have parallel subjects: "although its A was B and its X was Y, the production sector..."

(D) having recently added many new manufacturing units around the world and with the profit figures increasing unexpectedly, the production sector's
- "Although" should begin a dependent clause, not a participial phrase like "having..."
- "having" and "with" not parallel

(E) currently adding many new manufacturing units around the world and having the profit figures increase unexpectedly, the production sector's
- same issue as in D: "although" + participle
- this sounds like everything is happening at this exact moment, but the adding and the increasing must have happened in the recent past.

Either A or B could be acceptable right answers, so this is a bad question.
