The problem displays -2, -1, 0, 1, 2 on a number line.

Of the five numbers on the number line above, which has the greatest absolute value?

I think i'ts pretty clear that -2 and 2 have the same absolute value, yet the OA is -2 because "the absolute value of a number x is the distance between x and 0 on the number line. -2 is the farthest from 0 and thus has the greatest absolute value."

HUH??

Is this just a mistake? It's from OG.

i would say My answer is also -2.

please refer to the diagram... its referencing between 1 and 2 and not exactly on 2.. thats the trap...

hence the answer is -2.

hope its clear now.. u shud have posted the picture as well..

not really clear, no. absolute value is always positive, regardless of whether the number is - or +.
so the absolute value for 2 and -2 is 2

well, on your diagram, yes, i can see that.
on my diagram however (in the OG book), the arrows are clearly directly over each number, not slightly offset like in yours.

i ask all the posters to pitch in and let us know what is their in their OG.. in my OG its question no 19. in some its 20 ...

Hello friends,

I am using a 11th edition OG. This is the 20th question in OG. The lines are clearly offset in this edition. The arrow mark is directly above -2 and the other arrow mark is between 1 and 2. Hence the answer is -2.

Yes, the question is misprinted in earlier versions of the 11th edition, then was fixed. I provided a link to the official corrections to the earlier versions and explained further here:
