Neither statement offers any information about the number of attendees who are alumni.
Thus, the two statements combined are INSUFFICIENT.

The correct answer is E.

Statement 1
3/5 of the attendee are member of the university faculty
we are not given any information about total number of attendees or total numbers of alumni
hence statement 1 is INSUFFICIENT

Statement 2
40% of the attendee are not members of university faculty.
The remaining 60% can be alumni or both alumni and faculty
information given is not ENOUGH to find out if any of the members are faculty and alumni members

Statement 1 and 2 together
None of the two statements provide information about the total attendee hence it is NOT SUFFICIENT
