Framed by traitorous colleagues, Alfred Dreyfus was imprisoned for twelve years before there was exoneration and his freedom.

(A) there was exoneration and his freedom
(B) he was to be exonerated with freedom
(C) being exonerated and freed
(D) exoneration and his freedom
(E) being freed, having been exonerated

[spoiler]QA: C; My qyestion is (i) Is D has parallelism issue? if yes; why? (ii)How can we write correct form of (D)[/spoiler]

This is an interesting question, because it's rare that "being" is correct.

The correct meaning here is that it is Dreyfus who was exonerated and freed. C is parallel, and has a clear meaning.

In D, it's awkward to say "before exoneration and his freedom." A better way to state it would be "he was exonerated and freed."

@gmatblood, I think there are more polite ways to deal with this. I appreciate your concern for our members' learning, but you can first ask for someone to underline the question in a little more calm manner and we'll deal with it if it doesn't happen.
