Original version:
In A.D. 391, resulting from the destruction of the largest library of the ancient world at Alexandria, later generations lost all but the lliad and Odyssey among Greek epics, most of the poetry of Pindar and Sappho, and dozens of plays by Aeschylus and Euripides.
D) as a result of the destruction of the library at Alexandria, the largest of the ancient world.
E) Alexandria's largest library of the ancient world was destroyed, and the result was
D
One problem with E is that "the result was" should be followed by that, apart from this, what's the problem with E?
"Alexandria's largest library" seems to be a correct possessive "'s" form,
and the rule for possessives with of is "determiner + noun + of + possessive". So, the problem lied with the lacke of determiner?
Alexandria's largest library -> noun
of
the ancient world -> possessive
But the OG says that the phrase Alexandria's largest library of the ancient world is not an logical.
Can somebody please offer a help and share his/her opinion on this issue.
THanks.
