Health officials estimate that 35 million Africans are in danger of contracting trypanosomiasis, or “African sleeping sickness,” a parasitic disease spread by the bites of tsetse flies.
(A) are in danger of contracting
(B) are in danger to contract
(C) have a danger of contracting
(D) are endangered by contraction
(E) have a danger that they will contract


why B is wrong?

why B is wrong?

Either "in danger of" or "endangered by". Here we have a name of disease right next to "contract". So I think A would be better than D.

Danger to is not idiomatic .... "danger of is correct" .... and "dangerous to" is correct.

IMO

"WE HAVE A DANGER" = we are possessing a danger (just like I HAVE A PEN).

The original sentence does not intend to say that Africans are possessing a danger

WE ARE IN DANGER = We are in trouble

I am not an expert but IMO A

B: non idiomatic (danger of)

A: is correct as it uses the correct present continuous tense.

C: wrong as it uses present perfect continuous tense ( refers to action that started in the past, rolls over to the present and still continuing but here the sentence refers to present tense only and does not state anywhere that Africans were in danger from the past)
