Admitted !!!

by psyborg » Sat Jun 06, 2009 12:27 am
Hello,

I am very happy to report that today I have received an admit from the MBA college of my choice.
I started out my journey with a GMAT score of 560 during my first attempt in Dec 2008. Thereafter, I decided to retake the GMAT but to my surprise received an even lower score of 540.
However, I did apply to five schools and have also selected by 2 MBA schools. One of them is American University - Kogod School of Business in Washington DC. I have also received a scholership of 3500$ per semester or 14,000$ (25%) of the MBA program covered over 2 years.
I also received a mail from Baruch College on 28th May requesting for a phone interview. I must say, the phone interview was very tough (according to me) as the questions were quite complicated. I had to make split scond decisions but all in all faired pretty well on the interview. Sounding confident is the key. You have to be focussed !
So I just received a mail from Baruch witihin 24hrs of my phone interview. I have received an admit to the Full Time Honors progran at Baruch - Zicklin School of Business.

I feel really proud of myself today and I can say with pride that your GMAT score is not all that matters. I am sure 560 is pretty low for Baruch considering I had applied in the last and final round. My essays were steller and my interview was fantastic. I believe the phone interview plays a BIG part in the MBA admissions. This is my dream college. I live in India and need to get to NY by Aug 3rd !!

However, I have not received a scholership yet. I still have to hear from Fordham and Pace in the coming week. I also needed to know, is it okay for me to ask Barcuh college directly for a Scholership or Graduate Assistanship. Baruch has incresed the FEE structure by 15% this year and I really need some kind of scholership to begin my journey. Would you know if they would maybe send me another mail regarding my scholership. Im very skeptical to ask them directly. Do let me know your view

Thanks very much for all the wondeful posts. I have been a silent observer here. This website has the best resources. :P
Cheers :P

Dear psyborg,

Congratulations on your admissions offers! What great news! Some schools will notify you of any scholarship awards with the offer of admission and others notify you of scholarships separately. Since it is late in the admissions cycle, the possibility of being awarded a scholarship is quite small. Generally speaking, I do not encourage admitted candidates to ask for money. Perhaps you could inquire on how Baruch awards scholarships or how you can apply for scholarships? This way you are not directly asking for money, but will find out whether or not there is a possibility of scholarship dollars.

Enjoy business school this fall,
Lisa

Dear Lisa,

Thanks very much for your reply. I will find out more about the Scholership facility at Baruch College. I had another question please. Could I apply for some kind of financial aid or grant at this point of time. I understand it is pretty late but I would really like to try and receive some kind of aid. I understand the process differs from college to college but is there any specific timeline? Thanks again for your assistance.

Regards.

Once again, this is another question to direct to a specific school. There is not really any federal grant money for graduate study in the US. Most business school students pay for it through loans, scholarships, and savings.

Good luck,
Lisa

Dear Lisa,

Thanks for your reply. I will direct this question to the school itself. I have just received an admit to Fordham University - Graduate School of Business as well. However, there was no phone interview at all. Do you know if Fordham University does not request phone interviews. That's really strange. I am confused now on which college to attend. Also since Baruch is a public school and Fordham is a private school, are there any pros and cons in that regard. Could you please advise the benefits of a public school and private school or if there is no real distinction to make in terms of quality of education.

Again, thanks so much for helping me with my questions.
Regards
