Actual GMAT percentiles

by arora007 » Tue Jun 29, 2010 1:52 am
I was just having a cursory look at "I just beat the GMAT" thread.
50 odd posts on a page and around 40 odd pages.
which would mean 2000 odd posts.
If I were to roughly estimate, 75-80% of the data is useful.
i.e.
if the exiting data could be used
and
from now on the thread requires each member to put in the test date the breakups of each section and the percentiles it would be useful data.

For example

A 38V is 85 percentile
A 49Q is 90 percentile
and it could result in a 710 i.e. 94 percentile it was according to OG-11

A 38V is 83 percentile
A 49Q is 88 percentile
and if it results in 710 i.e. 92 percentile it was according to OG -12

This relative change of 2 percentile points was in a span of a few years.

However,

I gave the GMAT 2 times last year once in Early June and once in Late November.
With the percentile scores that I compared with OG ,there was a change of 3 percentile points within a span of 5 months.
( from +1 to +4 from the OG.)
which means that each day, each month, each year the GMAT is becoming all the more competitive and more tough
and which would require each one of us to know the Latest Trends of the score. i.e. percentiles.

According to me the Trend could be established from the 7 sets of data below.

Date Q Qpercentile V Vpercentile SCORE overallpercentile

Until a few years ago a few colleges considered 700 a good score now 720 is good according to them.
Its not that scoring has become easy, its just that the percentiles for them have remained constant.

You can make a Business man of an IT guy...but you cannot take out the IT guy out of him :)
This is my fourth post all suggesting to make changes with how data can be captured and disseminated.
But I am sure IT can leverage the combined knowledge of a network of human beings.
After all us higher primates have evolved with this rich data flowing over the centuries...
