(E) that the global concentration of this poison, if the present rate of buildup did continue,

Answer is A. I picked something else because I thought "continue" should've been "continueS" because "the present rate" is singular. Can someone explain why it is plural? It doesn't conform to the subjunctive mood rule: "bossy verb or If" + that. This is backward. This it still count?

I picked E. Wrong. I don't know why B is right. Can some one explain? Thanks.

verb that follows a modal verb (should/shall/could/would/may/might...) is always in its bare form: should be, We should do this; He should do that (not He should DOES that).

for 22, please double check the answer key. My sources say the OA is E

In the first question. Why "that" needs to be included? sounds unidiomatic. I picked answer "B" :(

thanks good exp. Mine says B. I think you are right though. B is just not right. I dl my stuff off the net so, I can't trust everything.

"so rapidly THAT" is the idiom

in fact general idiom is SO X THAT Y to show that x is so extreme that y occurs.

So A and E are left

- in E i interpret the double comma "..., if the present rate...," as non-restrictive though this comment is needed because the following clause "will double by the end of the next century" modifies the present rate

therefore A

for the second Q I think the ans is wrong - should be E as pointed out earlier
