Absolute Value Question

If y is an integer, then the least possible value of | 23 - 5y | is

(A) 1
(B) 2
(C) 3
(D) 4
(E) 5

ANS is B

so how do I apply Absolute value concept to find the least value? Can someone direct me?

23-5y is smallest when y=5. so 23-5y becomes 23-5(5) = -2. Now, since it is , as per the question, l-2l, it is the same as 2. (Absolute value is the pure form of any integer, without it being negative (or positive)).

So, the answer is 2.
