|x| is absolute value, it wil always be positive.

1) This one I can't explain.......

2) x = 6 or x = -6

Because the answer is 4. |-6+2| = -4 but because it is a absolute value it will be 4.

|x+2| = 4

x +2 = 4
x = 2

OR

x + 2 = -4
x = -6

1) x^2 is not equal to 4

So this tells us x isn't 2. This means it is -6.

Suff

2) x^2 = 36

x=6 or -6

from solving we know that 6 wasn't one of the solutions so -6 is the answer.

If |x+2| = 4 what is the value of x?

1) x^2 is not equal to 4
2) x^2 = 36

================
x+2 = 4 => x=2
x+2 = -4=> x=-6

1. Says x=-6 sufficient
2. Says x=-6 sufficient
