I have one doubt in this i.e is the sentence not using subjunctive mood i,e "if the density of the timber wolf population"...................so shouldn't we take this sentence in the following manner "if I were a pilot"?????

i selected E because I fell for subjunctive mood

the one you selected "subject ... would, IF subject ... were " conditional - unreal, needs to follow this rule, i.e. not will BUT would

we don't know what is the idea conveyed by author in this sentence - i.e. regular, real or unreal - unless we follow the grammatical structure of this sentence

A-violates with "would+is" SHOULD BE "will +is" OR "would+were"
B-does so with "would, confusion with provided ... + is" SHOULD BE "will +is" OR "would+were"
C-"should +was" ------- the same
D-correctly put as "will+is"
