The projected sales volume of a video game cartridge is given by the function s (p) = 3000/(2 p + a) where s is the number of cartridges sold, in thousands; p is the price per cartridge, in dollars; and a is a constant. If according to the projections, 100,000 cartridges are sold at $10 per cartridge, how many cartridges will be sold at $20 per cartridge?

(A) 20,000

(B) 50,000

(C) 60,000

(D) 150,000

(E) 200,000

100,000=3000/(2*10+a)
20+a=.03
a=-19.97

Plug 20 into the function and the answer is ~ 150. I think the function should not have a plus sign in the denominator. Either that or I'm way off base

You're off because s is in thousands.

100 = 3000/(2*10+a)
20 + a = 3000/100 = 30
a =10

P=20:
s = 3000/(2*20+10)
= 3000/50
= 60

So answer is C - $60,000
